A Minnesota native, Jay McDougall creates contemporary wooden objects. He employs the reductive method of sculpture where material is removed to reveal the form. Jay selects distinctive logs from hardwood trees that have fallen or been marked for removal near his studio in rural Minnesota. His work is distinguished from most other wood collectibles in that it is carved from a single block of material and involves no glue-ups, joinery, or lathe-work. Jay prefers to sell his work directly to his collectors via juried and curated exhibitions across the country and through this website.
